So after a long drive from Dusseldorf across Germany, Netherlands & mostly Brussels the car ground to a halt at De Panne at 5pm. The misfire returned: this time the petrol pump was reassembled and was full of dirt but the real cause wasn't a suspected fractured pick up pipe but the joint , not enough seal , a sophisticated repair was undertaken after systematically working though the problem & using a tiny fabric washer which Julian fortunately had with him
