Must really get out in the garage and get the car running again.... The challenge to enter an event this year.....
Cross shaft brackets
So i have got the cross shaft brackets which need a bit of modification to fit them. Look how chunky these new ones are and have marked a pencil line where they need to be cut.
Then on both sides of the car I'll have to get all the old brake cable/ rod fittings off the end of the brake cross shaft to get the old brackets off and new ones on (i know i'm whining but they have probably been on there since 1927. This piccy shows a chunky new bracket above and the one to come off.....managed to take the photos then came inside... which won't get the job done...
Propshaft
So I did ask a man who knows and the spigot bearing does need to be further forward apparently three more washers on each boss on the fabric coupling (rag joint) should shimmy it forward....but this may alter the angle of the clutch pedal -may be too far down..... so need to try doing this and see.
MOT
would then be the next plan
And then reverse
.... Try and get some chain to fit.... That old blogging issue but I'm rather hoping that when i go to see Mark F that he’ll have some nice curvy old stuff or at least I can find some and give it to him to get it stretched on his cooper because this will be far simpler than the bevel box being taken out and getting new reverse cogs cut....
Other things ( non urgent ) to do
Whipping off the petrol tank and giving that a bit of an overhaul....
then theres the electrics....
headlight bracket which is cracked and generally sorting these out so the lights are properly set up (point in the right direction, don't go out).....
Well enough avoidance I will make myself work in the garage for at least 6 hours next weekend....
Looks like the clutch cross shaft might come out with out removing the valance (or looks so in the picture.)
Can you lift the other end up to help it slide out, or is it restricted by body timbers.
Tip top!
PS Spend less time blogging and more fettling!!!!
