I have used the J T 'master list' which was recently printed in a newsletter which has been added to by the raid organisers and I have adpated for PH3682     

• Usual tool kit.

• Spare Wheel

• Spare inner tube.

• Puncture repair kit

• Tyre levers

• Towrope
• Straps and bungees

• Usual running consumables – petrol, oil, water, bevel box oil.

• Igniton: vernier coupling/ spare coil, points/ distributor caps, rotor arm/ sparking plugs.

• Chain and link extractor.

• Spare chain and links/half-links etc.

• Jack & wooden jacking blocks

• Fabric coupling disc if used

• Set of “most likely to fail” bearing races – most ‘Nash bearings are metric so are available in Europe but clutch thrust and spigot bearings are Imperial and not widely available in Europe

• Chain lube aerosol.

• Radweld or similar.

• Loctite and gasket sealant.

• Grease gun.

• Short length of radiator hose and hose clips.

• Short length of flexible petrol hose for roadside repairs, or fuel siphoning.

• SU pump.

• Fan belt (for dynamo)

• Tank tape.

• Cable ties.

• Chalk./ permanent marker

• Boxes of nuts, bolts, split-pins, washers – including fibre ones for fuel system, screws and studding, fuses. etc.

• Bailing wire, and locking wire.

• Insulated wire for electrical repairs.

• Head gasket & sealant.

• Supply of rags  /gloves/ paper

• Overalls.

• Hand cleaner.

• Kneeling pad

• Nash nappy

• Car washing and cleaning kit 'Mr Sheen'

• Xtra carb jets (for altitude)

"We mean oil spillages and droppings from Frazer Nashes. .....It is vital for this Raid, and future Raids, that we maintain good housekeeping in this regard. To that effect, we will be issuing disposable oil-drip absorbent mats and they must be used in all hotel car parks and especially in all BZ hotel car parks. There will be a car-park marshal appointed at each hotel to enforce this policy."

So FG has designed a 'nash nappy' and here it is packed up, and opened on the garage floor.  A rope at each corner to secure to the wheel....

 

 

preparation

have been driving the car around a bit to get some miles on the back end.  
 
The 'mechanical preparation to do list' is done and after so much mechanical drama i'm not feeling complacent just wandering if we're in the eye of the storm.... too much of a lull.
 
I cannot forgive the programme 'The Real Italian Job:which stars the chef James Martin's Mille Miglia drama' http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00g82ff next on  this weekend Sunday 24 May 19:30 on BBC2 (watch out for  Richard and Lou) .  James who bought a 1948 Maseratti and had the engine rebuilt the engine .....he only did a few hundred miles on the 1st day when it expired....

 

So have been planning 'what if'/ back up cars.  Plan 1 is that we get the Beetle back on the road after a day of fettling .... or failing that we'll be there in my mazda MX5 ...

 

Most of the work has been thinking about spares checking the published lists...next blog is the list

• been having a right old drama trying to get an old lucas distributor.... so that still needs to be ordered in the next few days

 
 

 

MOT passed

MOT today in Kingsley with Keith 

I reassured him that since my last visit the brake linings and two brake shoes were new. 

Unfortunately the beam couldnt be tested on the funny lamp thing. But good news head lights, stop lights, side lights and horn all a success.  

 

 

Stopped in at dad's so he could here the bevel box....
